A POWERFUL BRAND TESTIMONIAL

Objective

In the consulting and engineering industry, many firms look and sound remarkably similar. Company names often consist of founder surnames, initials, or technical descriptors that communicate credibility but do little to create distinction.

For years, Gilmore & Doyle operated successfully under a traditional engineering firm identity. While the firm had built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality engineering, planning, and design solutions, its brand no longer reflected the forward-thinking organization it had become.

Leadership recognized that the firm's future demanded a different story.

The company partnered with Celsius Marketing & Interactive to undertake a complete transformation, including renaming, repositioning, and rebranding the organization to better reflect its innovative culture, multidisciplinary expertise, and ambitious vision for growth.

Key objectives included:

  • Develop a distinctive new company name
  • Create a modern and memorable brand identity
  • Differentiate the firm from traditional engineering competitors
  • Elevate market perception among clients and prospects
  • Better communicate the firm's innovative approach to design and engineering
  • Create a scalable platform for future growth
  • Establish a stronger emotional and visual connection with target audiences

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Modus didn’t always give off the young, hip, modern vibe. In a world where most engineering firm identities revolve around last names or initials, their former name, Gilmore and Doyle, left a lot to be desired. They knew they needed to differentiate themselves, and they were excited to build a brand that showed off their architectural and design chops within the consulting and engineering space.

Strategy

The challenge was larger than creating a new logo.

This was an opportunity to redefine how the organization presented itself to the market.

Through discovery workshops, stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, and brand strategy sessions, Celsius explored the firm's culture, aspirations, strengths, and differentiators.

The research revealed a key insight:

The organization was no longer defined by the names on the door.

It was defined by how it approached problems.

Collaborative. Creative. Strategic. Purposeful.

The brand needed to reflect movement, action, and intentionality rather than tradition alone.

This thinking ultimately led to the creation of a new name:

MODUS

Derived from the concept of modus operandi, the name reflects a distinctive way of thinking, working, and solving complex challenges.

The new brand would position the company as a modern engineering and design consultancy capable of competing for sophisticated, high-profile projects while appealing to clients seeking innovative partners rather than conventional vendors.

The strategy focused on:

  • Creating meaningful differentiation within the engineering sector
  • Modernizing the firm's visual identity
  • Aligning the brand with the organization's culture and aspirations
  • Elevating the perception of technical expertise through design
  • Creating consistency across all marketing and business development materials
  • Supporting recruitment, retention, and growth initiatives

MODERN

We worked with MODUS to develop an entirely new brand identity that would position the firm as modern, cutting-edge, and — most importantly — a critical player for top-tier engineering projects. The complete rebranding included a new name and logo, development of all new collateral and marketing materials and a new website.

Solution

Celsius led a comprehensive rebranding initiative that transformed every aspect of the firm's market presence.

Naming Strategy

The transition from Gilmore & Doyle to MODUS represented a fundamental shift in positioning.

The new name created immediate differentiation while communicating a modern, confident, and forward-thinking mindset.

Unlike traditional engineering firm names, MODUS felt contemporary, memorable, and scalable.

Brand Identity Development

A completely new visual identity system was created to support the firm's repositioning.

The system included:

  • Logo design
  • Color palette development
  • Typography standards
  • Visual language creation
  • Brand architecture
  • Identity guidelines

The design emphasized sophistication, precision, and modernity while reflecting the firm's expertise in planning, design, and engineering.

Messaging & Positioning

Celsius developed a messaging framework designed to communicate MODUS' unique approach to solving challenges and delivering results.

The messaging emphasized:

  • Strategic thinking
  • Collaborative partnerships
  • Design-driven problem solving
  • Innovation
  • Technical excellence
  • Future-focused leadership

This allowed the company to move beyond generic engineering language and establish a more distinctive voice in the marketplace.

Brand Rollout

The new identity was implemented across all customer-facing touchpoints, including:

  • Website design and development
  • Business collateral
  • Sales materials
  • Corporate communications
  • Presentation templates
  • Marketing materials
  • Environmental applications

Every element was designed to reinforce the new positioning and create a cohesive brand experience.

Key Outcomes

The transformation successfully repositioned the firm as a modern engineering and design consultancy while creating meaningful differentiation within a traditionally conservative industry.

Brand Impact

  • Successfully transitioned from a founder-based identity to a future-focused brand
  • Created a distinctive market position within the engineering sector
  • Elevated perceptions of innovation, creativity, and expertise
  • Increased consistency across all brand touchpoints

Market Differentiation

  • Established immediate separation from competitors, relying on traditional naming conventions
  • Created a memorable identity capable of supporting long-term growth
  • Better aligned external perception with internal culture and capabilities
  • Strengthened the firm's ability to compete for larger and more sophisticated projects

Strategic Impact

Most engineering firms build brands around who founded the company.

MODUS built its brand around how it thinks.

By combining strategic naming, bold positioning, modern design, and comprehensive implementation, Celsius helped transform a respected engineering firm into a differentiated brand prepared for its next chapter of growth.

The result was more than a rebrand. It was the creation of a new identity built to reflect the innovative mindset that had been there all along.

THIS MODUS OPERANDI IS FAR FROM NORMAL.
